Vogue 1217 Anna Sui dress

I loved this Anna Sui dress the moment I saw it in the new Vogue offerings.   And the pattern hasn't disappointed.
I did, however, have the immediate thought - My, that is short!  And in reality, My, it IS short!  I've made it as a top - which only required shortening the pattern 9cm.
This makes a nice summer top and is very easy to wear.

After looking at the photos of it on - it's a little boxy so I might take another centimetre off each side seam.  This is a size 14 but the boxiness is probably due to my fabric (a silk/cotton batiste remnant) not being as drapey as that in the pattern photo.  Drapey fabrics are best for this style.

The pattern is marked as 'Easy' and it is.  The fiddliest bit is finishing the bow edges.
The only troublesome part was the bias bound neckline. Vogue patterns with round necklines rarely fit me well at the neck/upper chest and here I had to reduce the length of the self bias binding by 2 1/2 inches. The neckline is meant to be piped but I left that out for this fabric.
The tucks on the bottom were also reduced- it looked nice on, but the hem was in danger of splitting whenever I tried to get the top over my head.

The bow as per the pattern is a folded over tube but that looked a bit heavy in this fabric so the width was halved and this is a single layer bow with finished edges.
The inside sleeve seam was bound for a bit of luxury.
It's a good summer top without the bow too.
All in all - a very nice pattern indeed.  Anything that is easy and quick to make yet looks stylish gets my vote!

  3. Wow, this pattern does make a lovely blouse. And you only took off 9 cm! Yikes, that was one short dress. I really liked the fabric you used.

  4. Another success! This pattern looks like it could become a staple - I really like the sleeve and bow details - but it's incredible that it was so short that just 9cm less made it a top!
